[story snipped to save space... shoot me PM for details... lol)

First mod... resonator deletes! Eventually I will get a different tube to replace the piece between the scoop and the airbox, but for now, it adds a little more growl. I neatly sealed off the holes with electrical tape. Ghetto-tastic.

Before:

After:

Next, I removed the silly piece of plastic that Subaru put in front of the intake scoop to deflect air away from it.

Now, for my first appearance mod. This may not seem like a mod, but it certainly made a difference in the way the car looks. The paint's clearcoat was contaminated with all sorts of stuff, from old wax buildup to waterspots to ground in road grime, you name it. It gave the car an odd grey-ish tint.

Today I was determined to remove the aforementioned 'tint', and make her shine again.

First step was removing the bug deflector, and doing a two-bucket wash. Here's what it looked like after that:

Then, I claybarred the entire car. The clay took out most of the surface stuff that was left behind, but the paint still felt rough to the touch. So I broke out the Griot's/Porter Cable buffer and Meguiar's Swirl X for a test spot. Here's a pic of the spot:

After verifying that the method worked, I started working my way across the hood. Here you can see that the right edge of the hood is whiter than the rest. :icon_razz: I love seeing progress being made.

After that, I added a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax for protection. I'll follow up with another coat of NXT 2.0 Tech Wax once I get some at the store later. Then I moved on to the interior... sorry, no before pics, just an after:

I <3 big gauges...

After pics of the exterior (total time invested: 12 hours):

More to come, I have some fun stuff in mind.

This is the same data on NASIOC but I don't have the original link on me, check it out though and I will dig up the NASIOC thread which is more detailed.

Reprogram your Subaru odometer | How To - John Bain - Winnipeg,Manitoba
That officially made my head spin. :icon_eek:
Doable, but much easier to get a speedo that close to your mileage, or a new one that will start at zero. Still... one would think the dealership could reprogram a speedo, but that may be restricted to prevent fraudulent activity... if you know what I mean.

Honestly I wouldn't really care that much except for the fact that my engine carries a warranty based off the mileage on the odometer, and there are a couple other warranties I still have based on it as well. :/ So putting a new one in wouldn't be good unless I could reprogram it or have some one else do it.
Hurricane-proof engine cradle for the old heart.... completed! I weigh right around 200lbs (ugh) and was jumping up and down on it... will not flex. Should hold the ~190lb engine easily. It's an ugly bugger (I did this without a tape measure... which is odd for me), but it'll work.

It's a work of art! It should be treated (stained) & saved for a future project. Looks to me like you could add a piece of plywood to it & it would make a nice work surface!

Well, since my main car keys and fob decided to get washed off the beach a few days ago (were picked up yesterday by military police on base, and returned to me; a staff sergeant found them in the water!) my key fob no longer works. So, I just ordered a new 2009 Legacy key/remote to replace it!

My goal is to have three sets of keys. One at my parents' in TN for safe-keeping, and the other two with me at school in Kansas (regular set and the obligatory idiot-set) or at my dad's house in the summer.

Will update and post a pic once I get it cut, etc in a couple weeks.
Sounds like you've got it covered for lost keys except for locking yourself out!!!

I keep the metal flat valet key in my wallet for when I lock my main set in the car, happened once and now never again will I have to call the parents to let me back in my car. Also keep a spare set at home.
HAHA that is crazy he found your keys!!

Last week I misplaced my normal set of keys. The other set I had was the valet key, and does not open the glove box. My wallet was in the glove box so i was screwed.....
After 10 mins of searching for my normal set I found my old set of keys that I lost nearly 1 year ago!!! I got my glove box open to get my wallet and off I went.....later that afternoon when getting my disc golf bag out of the back of my car, I found my normal set of keys laying next to it (LOL wh00p5 iM r3t4rD).

Its all about Karma my friend!:Banane35:

I had my wallet stolen once and freaked out. So I'm just not entirely comfortable putting the valet in there yet. Hrmm...

I did that once...

...or twice.

Okay, maybe a few times. I recall an instance where I was getting out of my '92 Chevy pickup (no keyless entry of course, but power locks) and set the keys on the seat while I grabbed my bag out of the back. One of my friends at the rehearsal (for a play) distracted me, and I forgot about the keys. Hit the lock button, shut the door. As soon as I heard it shut, I was thinking, "Craaaaaaaaaaaaap."

Ended up using my pocket knife to break into the rear sliding window, and reaching in to get the keys. Fail. :raspberry:
My neighbor (an undercover cop) locked his keys in his dodge pickup. I opened it with a coat hanger in about 1 minute. I just smiled when he asked how I knew how to do that.
So... I thought the Outback was a bit sluggish. There is no replacement for displacement, correct? So I doubled it. I now have a 5.0L Outback.

Only problem is, going up and down the hills on I-40 today it seemed more sluggish.

Stopped in Dandridge for the night. Best tank thus far is 23.9mpg, worst (current) is 18.4. Hit some heavy traffic in the mountains, plus the bike and spare tire on the roof didn't help much. :/

You're way too attached to that old engine! Are you taking it with you to school?

LOL!

No, when I get home I'll oil the cylinder bores, wrap it up, and store it in our shed for me to tear apart next summer. So far my plan is to do a high compression build... with some fairly aggressive headwork and cams. After college it may go back into the car, or I may find an old GC Impreza shell to work with and put it in as a purpose built rally beast.
I was thinking you had to ship it back. No "core charge" on the new heart?
