[story snipped to save space... shoot me PM for details... lol)

First mod... resonator deletes! Eventually I will get a different tube to replace the piece between the scoop and the airbox, but for now, it adds a little more growl. I neatly sealed off the holes with electrical tape. Ghetto-tastic.

Before:

After:

Next, I removed the silly piece of plastic that Subaru put in front of the intake scoop to deflect air away from it.

Now, for my first appearance mod. This may not seem like a mod, but it certainly made a difference in the way the car looks. The paint's clearcoat was contaminated with all sorts of stuff, from old wax buildup to waterspots to ground in road grime, you name it. It gave the car an odd grey-ish tint.

Today I was determined to remove the aforementioned 'tint', and make her shine again.

First step was removing the bug deflector, and doing a two-bucket wash. Here's what it looked like after that:

Then, I claybarred the entire car. The clay took out most of the surface stuff that was left behind, but the paint still felt rough to the touch. So I broke out the Griot's/Porter Cable buffer and Meguiar's Swirl X for a test spot. Here's a pic of the spot:

After verifying that the method worked, I started working my way across the hood. Here you can see that the right edge of the hood is whiter than the rest. :icon_razz: I love seeing progress being made.

After that, I added a coat of Meguiars Gold Class wax for protection. I'll follow up with another coat of NXT 2.0 Tech Wax once I get some at the store later. Then I moved on to the interior... sorry, no before pics, just an after:

I <3 big gauges...

After pics of the exterior (total time invested: 12 hours):

More to come, I have some fun stuff in mind.

Retarded question: The JDM HID's for the Legacy/OB are aimed differently than the USDM ones, correct? So I can't use them?

I wonder how hard it is to 'clear' USDM the headlights... hrmmm. Mine are pitted pretty badly from rocks on the freeway. I saw a set of these on a Baja in Germany a few weeks ago, and they were awesome!

If you could get your hands on one from Germany you wouldn't have to worry about the aiming, unlike with the JDM ones. I don't know about these, but a lot of the German ones actually have glass lenses (as opposed to plastic) too, so they don't pit and fog as easily. I know this is the case with the SVX headlights over there. Not sure about the more recent Subie models, though.

Danke!

Glass would be a huge plus, I'm always worried about scratching the plastic whenever I'm scrubbing off bug remains and the like.

Thanks Bobby, glad you enjoyed it. Just getting started!
Photoshop fun...

Yes? No? The wheels are lighter in real life. My sister did this today while I was detailing a LGT (which is where the wheels came from).

I kinda like it.

alright, next time i'm in jackson, i'm taking a side trip to get you to detail my forester! ;) awesome job!
Me likes the 06/07 WRX wheels!
That's 'cause they're awesome. :icon_wink:

<===
Your sister has some photoshop skills! Those would look great on there
Thanks guys, I will pass the compliments on to her. Photoshop is her hobby.

They looked hot on the LGT (color was PSM), and I'd always liked them... so I was thinking out loud, and she heard me. Thanks to her, now I really want them.

I see them going for $400-ish shipped with tires on Nabisco. Hrmmmmm.

*counts pennies*

Anybody wanna donate?
Here's one I found with the same wheels (best color LGT- ABP:icon_wink:)
This is the one I detailed today. That 5EAT is pretty nice... good match for the turbo.

Some new leathery goodness. Thanks, Silke. Shifting through the gates feels much more solid now.

Now I just need to find a wheel to match. Not in a big hurry, I kinda like the one it has now. It has a grippy texture.

Funny... I prefer the rubber shifter in my '03 over the leather one in my '07. :frown: My son wants to switch, so problem solved!

Was it east to remove the old shifter?

BTW, you really got the trim looking like new!

Bobby...

Bobby...
Just unscrew the knob... It's kinda tight at first, but it will turn with a little effort. My rubber one was kinda loose (something was messed up inside) so I just replaced it with a leather one.

Thanks, I'm always outside doing something to it! Our neighbors think I'm insane.
Thanks, I didn't think it would be that easy to remove the shifter knob.

Sooooo... whatcha doing to your ride now? Of couse, "must have pictures"!

Bobby...
Next week it gets new struts (KYB GR-2's) and a set of RalliTek HD rear springs, installed by Andrewtech if they get back to me. If not them, then the local dealer.

But my first big DIY project will be one of these (or something like it) with a pair of Hella 500 or 700 series driving lights on top:

https://www.rallyinnovations.com/product_detail.php?prod_id=36

I'm going to order another OEM fog light switch for them, to fit in the blank spot on the dash by my cruise control button so that it looks factory. I really want the WRX wheels, but we have a huge deer population at home in rural TN, and I do a ton of night driving. Saftey/visibility > looks :icon_wink:

It will be a while before I get it installed, I'll be away from the car until late September after a week. My dad is borrowing it for a while.
Sounds like you have lots of MODs in progress! Don't forget to take pictures. Sometimes I get so involved in the MOD, that I forget to take pictures. :frown:

If you haven't used an OE/factory switch before, they're a PIA to connect to. You might want to get a plug from a wecking yard so you can splice to it, or even the entire switch with the plug (with wires attached)

Thanks for the tip... I'll have to remember that!

I got fidgety today and removed the foglight grilles, and re-aimed the fogs to where they're actually good for something. I think I like it without the grilles better. Sorry, the stupid white just washes out the pics.
