I have a Turbo in my 2009 XT that is creating a smoke screen James Bond would be proud of.

I had installed a used Turbo that had no shaft play at all. I'm assuming the oil seal in the turbo is gone.

I can buy a complete Turbo off ebay for $200. But I know I am taking a huge gamble with doing that (you get what you pay for) so:

I want to replace the Cartridge only.

What is a good/decent brand?

What model# do I need?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mellet is one of the better chra assemblies. You will want to check the stampings on your turbo to be sure of which chra to order. Always decent prices if you order direct from England.

I sent an email to Melett asking if they just don't list one, or actually don't make one.

I am pretty sure your turbo is just a tdo4l13t with a different compressor housing. But then subaru went and updated it, so it is hard to go by the original part number. The new part number should be something like 14411AA7109L.

But the chra part number was originally 49477-04000 I think. I cant find a reference for an updated chra part number, so that should still work.

Got a response back from Melett.

Apparently the CHRA model number is: 1401-404-916.

but they don't sell direct, so I'm going to have to order it through a shop. (or online. I wonder if there are "fakes" out there...)

Melett actually gave me the name of a shop in Canada I could buy it from.

It turns out it is in a city we were going to visit anyways, so I ordered it through them.

The used Turbo I had purchased had zero to no shaft play, so the housing wasn't damaged/scraped up. So, I basically have a new Turbo now...

(The shop I bought the cartridge from said that the TD04 is made by Mitsubishi and that generally speaking the Melett cartridges are better quality than the original)
