What's the best way to swap out a rusted rear cross member subframe ?

Most people say to drop the whole rear end with everything attached

Anybody do it with just unbolting control arms and differential bolts and removing 4 top mount bolts ? will lowereing differential with half shafts attached give you enough room to mount new cross member ?

Drop the lot, build up the new one away from the car where its easier, refit whole unit is the easiest way for sure.
