Since the polar vortex is here, I've had plenty of time to watch other vehicles try to get moving on the ice and snow. I'm surprised how many have quite a bit of front wheelspin before they start to go. Just this morning I saw it on a Honda and a Hundai. My driving entertainment may now be watching for this in other SUV's, and see which is the worst offender...

Yeah. I watched a Highlander spinning its wheels going up a small (maybe 10 degree) hill. Cemented my conviction to stick with Subaru for the next car.

I saw Jeep Cherokee spinning his front wheels in the deep snow on the parking lot. For a moment I thought it is FWD until rear wheels finally kicked in. I know Jeep has different AWD systems but I was still surprised.
While stock tires are terrible, Subaru AWD is really good coordinating front and rear wheels. On the top of it, X-mode really helps in low traction situation. I was initially suspicious but it really works.
