What is the problem they created? And have you tried another dealer? I realize that you have limited choices in Mojave [Victorville?].... Maybe try another...?
It's a long story, but to semi-summarize... a Subaru dealer replaced my short block back in May of this year due to high oil consumption. About 4 months later, I noticed an oil burning smell caused by leaky head gaskets and timing chain cover (Almost certainly due to a poor repair job by the dealer as they would have had to take apart these components anyway). That same dealer 'fixed' the problem under warranty; replaced head gaskets, resealed the timing chain cover. Upon picking up my car from the dealer, I noticed the engine sounded a bit different, with a noticeable 'tick' noise that wasn't there before that can be heard at warm idle... almost like a stuck valve, misadjusted valves, or incorrect cam timing. It also sounds a bit rougher on acceleration and the engine shakes a tiny bit more at idle. The frustrating part is that the problem isn't serious enough to trigger the check engine light, but it's definitely noticeable to me compared to when I dropped the car off for repair.
The timing chain cover was also still leaking oil. I took the car back to the same dealer to address the oil leaking and engine noise and they concluded the engine was operating "normally". They replaced two o-rings for the oil control solenoids where oil was leaking from but that did not appear to fix the problem -- oil is still leaking.
So as of right now I have an engine that doesn't sound right, is leaking oil, and I'm now officially out of warranty (as of early November). I'm not worried about the warranty issue as Subaru corporate has reassured me they will fix the problem IF they can verify it exists. The oil leak should be easy for them to verify as it's clearly visible... the engine noise is going to be difficult as the dealership says it's "normal".
