I seem to need to haul 8 foot long boards a lot for my various home projects. As others have noted, this can be awkward - You end up either resting the ends of boards on top of the dashboard (just a guess, but probably not meant to be a weight bearing surface) or pushed up against the dashboard for some stability.
I can see a simple styrofoam insert that would rest on the front seat making a level surface with a thick lip to protect the dashboard itself. Sorta an "L" shaped object. I think that would bear the weight just find and contain the lumber a bit.
Anyone have a chunk of styrofoam and a shaver?
