Hi to folks in the forum. I found you all through Gooogling tappet noise. It appears that there is much to learn. We have had our 2003 FXS for 6 years and it is getting noisy. As it quiets down after the engine warms up it sounds like the 65000 miles and the Mobil 1 synthetic (recommended viscosity) are the primary culprits. Thanks, and I look forward to enjoying my ride a bunch more miles and years.

Any help on fuel mileage? We've gotten 23-25 mpg since new. never better, and sometimes worse in deep snow.

My contribution - Blizzaks are the only way to fly. The cat claws installed in the treads allow my wife to fly safely in the snow in the colorado mountains!

Welcome to the forum from Oregon!

I have an '03X, highly MODded & I have to say the engine sounds great. I use Valvoline 5W-30 MaxLife synthetic blend. I change the oil & filter every 3 months, or 3000 miles, whichever comes first.

Post up a picture of your Forester so the forum members can look it over.
