Hey all, been working on my 05 Forester. Rarely driving it. Its got a brand new battery in it. Jumped into it today to start it and all i get when i turn my key is a loud relay click behind the dash. All my lights/ and fans n such work so its not the battery.

What am i looking at to fix this parts wise? Im sure its not too hard to fix but im assuming its the starter and solenoid?

What do i do to fix my problem?

Are you 100% certain the jumper cables were well engaged? Just cause the lights and whatnot run, does not mean that you had enough juice to turn over the engine. Sometime, if the battery is dead, the vehicle needs to "dump" some charge into the dead battery first.

Clicking does sound like the starter solenoid thought, which I think is integral to the starter. I've only had my 05 starter off once and that was when removing the engine, so I had lots of stuff removed. Its not hard to do, but you'll need to remove several layers of stuff. I bet youtube has a vid of it.

I'd definitely charge that battery good and proper first, maybe even have a store check it, and check ALL your grounds and battery terminals. Its amazing how often poor connections are the cause of the dreaded "clicking"...... Good luck....

Pulled the starter. Was pretty easy. Two bolts for air box. Two bolts on starter. Hopefully replacing it fixes the issue.

I didn't really find anything on YouTube for this car specifically but it still worked out.
