We had a few days of snow and 25F weather. One morning I drove the Forester out into the woods and went for a three-hour walk. Started driving home and the car made the weirdest noise ever – it sounded like sleigh bells ringing. This was right before Christmas – go figure. The noise stopped after about 15 minutes of driving and never came back. Couple days later my wife tells me that her car, a 99 Legacy Outback, makes the same sound; except that it is intermittent and still there. No, I didn’t make this up.
Noise only occurs when the car is rolling and seems to originate somewhere from the wheels. I checked the wheels/brakes/etc but didn’t see anything obvious. Does anybody know what might be causing this?
