Hello all,
I'm a resident of Aiken, SC and commute to Columbia, SC for work. I've just about worn out my 2011 Lexus CT-200h to the point where it is only getting about 34-37 MPG (and it's a hybrid).
I see all sorts of accidents and am looking for a safer vehicle, so I researched and settled on the Forester. On January 5, we're going to visit the closest dealer (Gerald Jones Subaru in Martinez, GA) to test drive and discuss options. They don't have the trim/interior/exterior combination I want (Touring/Brown Leather/White Paint) so I may have to order from the factory or pick something else.

I appreciate all the wonderful info on the forum and hope to be a contributing member soon, dispensing wisdom and advice like the rest of you.

If you also are from the Aiken, Columbia or any place in between, reach out to me if you feel so inclined.

Once I get the new vehicle, the first modification I will be doing is to install my amateur radio equipment and antenna to it. If there are any other hams out there, also reach out to me... my callsign is N5PRE.

If the GPS is important to you, check out it's non muting of music when getting voice instructions.. My Touring model does not mute the music when giving voice instructions. I must be one of the few who finds it annoying.

Is this true even if you opt to use Waze on ApplePlay while streaming or playing podcasts or music with the iPhone also?

I drove a loaner 2018 Impreza Sport for a few days when my 2017 Forester was at the dealership. I used my Android phone for directions via Android Auto app. Radio does not mute but the radio volume is lowered when any app like Google Android Auto announces directions. The volume of directions was very loud which made it easier to hear over the radio.

You will have to decide if radio not muting is a deal breaker for you or if you can get used to it.

Mobile apps for directions and other GPS functionality may be better than built-in navigation for updates and functionality. You can use Google apps offline and not use any data.

Well, I committed to a Touring trimmed 2019 Forester in Crystal Black Silica with Saddle Brown Leather by handing over $500 to have it shipped to the dealership. It hasn't arrived in port yet, but they'll nab it in Virginia when it arrives and transfer it to my dealership before the end of the month. I hate the prospect of driving my old car for almost another month, but I'm stoked about starting the process!

Well, I have a VIN number now! I ordered my ownership badge and it should arrive a couple of weeks after I receive delivery on the car. Too bad I can't track its whereabouts using the VIN... (I saw a thread on that where someone else asked about doing that and he was very rude about how he took the news that he should just relax and wait).
