GOOD GOD IN HEAVEN I just realized that it's a 20G. I thought that mod list was your laundry list of things "to-do", not already done. I'm actually rather shocked. lol.

Are you using it for the rally class? Be careful on those tires in dirt, it's going to be slippery......like ICE.

^^ The upside-down "bacon" is probably an April Fools Joke, after all some of our Admins are in the UK, and it's already April 1st there.

^^ Maybe. That's all I can think it is......being that we had a bacon thread a couple months ago with people posting up their support for bacon.

......to keep from blowing up
Not so much blowing up, more-so from hitting trees......or sharp, pointy boulders.

Seriously though, you're car is most likely capable of acceleration that will rival most cars in the $50,000+ price range...(RS Audi's, AMG Merc's, M-Line BMW's, etc.)

In other words.....

I want to drive it.

Badly.

......granted, my dumb choices were in a fwd with 115hp.
Back when I was 18, I did jail time and had my license revoked for 6 months for the crap I did in a 93hp Dodge Shadow. I would be dead right now if I would have had a stock XT. lol. It's amazing how much you can mature after spending thousands in tickets, and some time in jail. Not fun, but needless to say I "grew up quick".

SnoShado, sounds like your head is in the right place, and I congratulate you on doing so. It's good that you realize you have to pay for it all, make you appreciate it more.

The problem is that, regardless the car, if you don't have experience you never know you are going to lose control until its too late.

An FXT with a 20g mod isn't the vehicle to learn on.
NOT true. Doesn't matter what you start out with, as long as you have the correct mindset of wanting to learn how to drive it properly, you'll be fine.

I relate the scrutiny that SnoShado is going through now to the scrutiny that I went through when I told everyone on my motorcycle forums that I bought a 600RR sportbike to learn on as my first motorcycle. I had pages of people telling me that I was wrong, that I would kill myself, that I would crash immediately etc. etc. Only a handful of people actually encouraged me to get into the correct mindset of wanting to learn how to ride correctly, the mindset that if I misbehave, the bike would misbehave back with undesirable consequences. As long as SnoShado has the mindset that he described earlier, he'll do just fine.

....Also, SnoShado, I would PM a mod to have this thread renamed to "My new 20G Awesomeness" and moved. Then start a different thread later on as your actual Journal once everyone (including me) can digest the fact that a 19-year high schooler has one of the most powerful cars on this forum.

I will say that my lgt is obp and it has the worst factory paint I have ever seen.
Good thing that Snoshado has Java Black Pearl then, being it's an 04. JBP is amazing when it's waxed and polished with a professional buffer.

All you need to do Snoshado is get some high-quality waxes and polishes and a LOT of elbow grease. (or find yourself a professional-level buffer with LOTS of pads) You'll be surprised how those scratches will just disappear.

I thought you had 4-pot brakes?

Also, you can spray your bumper with the Duplicolor Bed-liner stuff that I used on mine. Uniform and even, and it might even match your grille (you can even respray that too for consistency). Either that, or wrap it in vinyl.

I'm also going to try and refinish my roof rails - they're turning grey and have dark spots where the warning stickers used to be. Any suggestions on this one? I think I'll start with some armor all and see what happens
Why not just spray them? I used Duplicolor "Trim Paint" (green can), and they came out amazing. It's the same paint I used on my grille. Durable, a dark satin black, and easy to spray.......

Isn't the spec like 140-160 psi or something like that :\
Exactly, I think the lower acceptable rate is around 140+.

Start saving for a leak down test (over a compression test) that will tell you where you are losing compression. It could be rings, intake valves, exhaust valves or even head gasket. Rings usually mean overbore with new pistons and rings, ca-ching, and while doing that, better re-seat the valves as you reseal it with a new gasket kit.

And do you really want to be known for trading in a dead horse, so-to-speak.:shake:
Depending on how the test was done (if it was up to proper engine temp first), the "quality" of the compression testing equipment, etc. all come into play when checking the compression. Even on a new Subaru engine, my compression test tool only gets it up to around 110 max......and it's also a cheap one. Main thing you're looking for is consistency. If you already have a compression leak, at that point you just want to know from where. It doesn't matter at that point of "how much and how fast" it's leaking......which is what the leakdown test does. Even if the cylinder numbers are low, but they're consistent throughout, odds are everything is sealing just fine, but you can always check with the method listed below before going all out on a full-on leak-down.

Easier, faster and cheaper way.......just take the Schrader valve out of the compression test hose, hook up shop air when you are testing the cylinder with the piston at the top of the compression stroke. Wherever you hear hissing, that's your leak. Hissing from the dip stick/oil pan, rings. Hissing from either intake or exhaust.......either one of those valves.

Unless it's a dedicated track car that I'm not driving on the street.......I would NEVER remove the airbag. That's just not a smart move IMO.

Other than that, the car seems like it would be an awesomely fun car to drive.

Will you approve if I buy a HANS and daily drive with that on? :icon_wink:

I'm going to be in boring-to-drive-in Ashland for the next two years and I'm hoping that if I do get into a 20mph crash, I'll be okay with no airbag...

The car is really nice right now, engine feels strong except at idle, and it's nice and comfy inside again. I'll be getting up early tomorrow morning for a smoke test so I can find out if I've got an air leak or if I need to have Mike change my ECU map. Even pushing 260WHP / 280TQ, this car is a beast.
Would strongly recommend throwing the stock wheel back on there. That steering wheel doesn't have any benefits in street driving compared to stock. Hell, I would just source an STi wheel from a newer car and go with that. Even a 20 mph crash without airbags will f you up!

DO IT, or I'll fly out there and beat you with your own steering wheel, then thank you for installing a quick release to make the ease of beating you with it easier.
