After using the AC on recirculating and then switching to fresh air non AC there nasty cats pee type of smell from the air vents. Can anyone suggest what this is caused by please? Car is an MY05 Forester. Thanks Biko

Probably something inside the vent intake. Could even be cat pee...

I guess you have to clean the system, to perform some kind of desinfection. Afaik, when you use AC, its radiator gets cold, when you turn it off then in a hot day, it gets wet with all the aftermath of it.

Therefore it's recommended to clean the system. Though I'm using mine for a bit more than a year and not sure there were cleaning before me, I get no smell issues.

I had this same problem , just cleaned flushed the whole system, mine was more of a mildew smell because the condensation builds up and sits, it depends on your climate a lot, but it is always possible a cat pee'd somewhere along the system
