Hi, I have an 09 forester and i'm looking at some winter tires. Right now the stock ones are horrible and i'm wondering if 205/65/R16 or 215/60/R16 will be ok. Stock size I believe is 215/65/R16. I looked them up on a tire calculator and they don't seem to be too much smaller. And also, Michelin X-Ice or Pilot Alpin PA2? Thanks!

I wouldn't go smaller than stock (lose ground clearance) but you can go a little bigger no problem, actually make the speedo closer to true.

Ok thanks, I may just go with the 205/65/16R X-Ice because the price is just too irresistable. Would it cost more to get the tires mounted on my original wheels each season or just buy a new set? Thanks!

The tire calculator says that at 60 mph, spedo will read 58.9, which I can deal with.

I know that both my Foresters with stock tires read high on the speedo.

65mph on speedo=60/61mph actual.
Larger tires on my 01 (225/70 15's) put my speedo almost dead on.

If you go with smaller tires this will be exacerbated.

I've got 215/60/16 on my 2010 and they seem to be allright speedo wise. This tire/wheel combo I pulled of of my 2001 Outback when I traded her in. It works for me:icon_cool:.

Bummer. The X-Ices were 46 dollars each on sears.com plus the 70 dollar rebate. Apparently they don't have any in stock anywhere and it was a mistake :\
