The short story is that I have a 99 forester that we've had since 2001. It had the HG and TB done at 200,000 km's and rear wheel bearings done last spring. The engine runs really well, and the car in general is as smooth as the 2004 and 2007 Subaru's it shares the driveway with. If I go to a mechanic, I'll be out more than the car is worth to fix the clutch. The body has some dings and is starting to rust and the car was always our 'utility' vehicle so it's in pretty rough shape all around (aesthetically) hurting any hopes of resale, but other than the clutch works perfectly for me in that capacity.
The rear suspension is also pretty saggy so I'm at a cross road. At first I thought I would ditch the car for $500 or something. My second thought is to do the clutch myself (never done one but it seems like a good time to experiment! I have a garage and tools but haven't gotten greasy since high school fiddling with old imports). My third thought is to go for broke and update the suspension, brakes and clutch and do a quick touch up on paint. I would do it over a week break I get in February.
What are your thoughts? I have the money to do just about anything and if I did a bunch of work it would be as much for fun as for any ROI objectives.
Thanks for your input,
Marlow
