I think that my Stage 2 FXT might be a bit fast for my teenager. It is faster than anything I owned even in my mid 20's. However, the car is safe and he loves Subarus. I am building up a Focus SVT for him that is not working out because the parts are hard to find, the community is dead, and the rebuild is going terrible.

I know that my FXT is cared for, safe, and reliable as heck. It is the devil that we know. We love the AWD and the fact that we have an extra set of dedicated snow tires and rims.

Any thoughts for or against it? Can we turn down the tune while he gets experience?

Thanks

It really depends what responsibility he usually demonstrates. I imagine it could be detuned as a precaution. Maybe put a tracking monitor it? Over here new driver's are not allowed to drive XTs until their 3rd (?) year of holding a license.

If your son is responsible, has a good driving record... no speeding tickets, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I got lots of speeding tickets when I was young driving my modified 64 VW bug. My son has never had any traffic tickets, no accidents & is a very laid back driver. I taught him to drive in our '95 Neon Sport, which he drove to school. He now drives an '03 X that we turbocharged!

I have a heavy right foot! I haven't had a ticket in 30+ years, but I do like to feel the power of the XT engine!

You can never tell! mom drives like a crazy person. He actually didn't want to be taught to drive by mom, so that task was passed to me... the weekend dad, at that time. That was nearly 15 years ago!
