Just for informational purposes, Bandag has a process where they can replace damaged sections of sidewalls. Don't know what all sizes can be done, but I had it done on a 235-80R16 truck tire. IIRC, it ran about $30 maybe 10-12 years ago. I drove that tire for about 4 years and it was still holding air when we scrapped the vehicle.
Since Bandag primarily does commercial tires, they may not have the stuff to do the tire sizes Subarus use. On the other hand, it may be worth a try. Check with places that do a lot of commercial tire work or the Bandag website.
