Okay, pulled the engine to check the rear main(2005 Forester X), wife jumped to check on the emergency brake and pushed the clutch pedal to the floor while the slave was unmounted from the block. I knew as soon as her butt hit the seat what she was going to do, but didn't get the warning out in time. Piston didn't come out, but not getting any pedal pressure on reassembly. Fighting with the bleeding, as it seems everyone does--but is that all it needs?

Figured it out. Tried bleeding with the slaved raised, piston clamped, pushing piston in after bottom of the clutch stroke, none of that was working. 60ml syringe back through the bleed valve, with the pedal in the up position, did the trick.
