So this issue occurs when the car is cold. The frequency of the scream is exactly 3khz and doesn't change with engine speed. It does go away if rpm is too far away from 2krpm, or if the engine reaches temperature.

The sound at idle could be related?

Anyone else seen this before?

Get a long screwdriver / wrench extension bar or similar and with the engine running place the tip on components such as the a/c compressor; power steering pump; alternator etc with the other end against your ear to hear and identify the noise at idle.
