I just replaced the head gaskets on my 02 forester S. I had noticed a bubbling/rushing water sound before I did the work (the radiator had just been replaced) and I assumed that it was just the system working out the airbubbles. Now, after ~60 miles i'm still getting that sound and it is mostly coming at ~3,000 RPM. Could this still be bubbles working their way out of the system? The sound seems to be coming from the water pump and behind the dash. Could the new water pump be causing cavitation in the coolant and thus the noise?

Who has some ideas?

Yeah that sound is usually air bubbles. Did you burp the coolant system? Run the heater while you did it?
