I was driving my friends car and messed up one of his rims. It is a Subaru Forester and he has light weight racing rims that I am not able to find a replacement for.

They are 17 x 7.5" with a +50 offset. I can find plenty of 17x7.5" wheels but with a +48 offset. Should I be concerned that they are not exact. I have been to a couple of rim stores and they offered contradicting advice. One place said the offset doesnt matter as much as the weight of the wheel while the other said if the offset doesnt match exactly then I will mess the car up.

Can any one give me some advice?

Thanks

Anyone that tells you the weight matters more than the offset...I'd worry about.
The first thing I would want to know is can the wheel be repaired? Here around Atlanta we have a couple of companies that will / can repair most wheels (even light weight ones) for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
See if you have a Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists location nearby or do a web search to find a place near you.

offsets aren't as important as the overall tire diameters. If the tires don't match, you can really mess things up.

Do you know what the bent/broken rim is or is there any chance you can snap a picture and attach it to a post here? perhaps we can help you track down the appropriate replacement rim. I find a lot of them when I search on google...

I dont think it is able to be repaired. Attached is the only pict I have. Its not a very good picture, the bend is actually torn/cracked off from the wheel.

It is a:

SSR type-C 17x7.5" offset +50 type F P.C. D/H 100/5
040720 speed star co. L.T.

I've seen these guys fix rims that had unbelievable damage. It might be worth a phone call to find out...

Bad news, just called my friend to tell him that it might be repairable. He bought a new wheel earlier this morning, even after I asked him to wait. He bought a completely different wheel that is 17x7.5 with a +42 offset, it is in the back driver side if that helps at all.

Should I tell him that he should return it?

Interesting, I can't find any SSR type-C in a +50. They have do have a +49 still available though.

That +42 wheel will have the center of the tire 8mm further out from the car than the other wheels.

I'd probably try to sell the remaining 3 wheels as spares and pickup a new set of wheels or try to get the remaining one repaired. You could also probably get 2 of the +42 and run them with the other +50's so that its even side to side, I wouldn't really want to drive with one thats pretty far off on just 1 corner.
