I've got a 2011 Forester that came with the auto-dimming mirror with the compass display in it. The compass display has died, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to upgrade to the mirror with homelink so I can ditch the garage door opener clipped to my visor. How hard is it to swap in this mirror? Is it as simple as removing the old one and plugging in the new one? Looking to hear from someone who's done it before. Thanks!

I did this on my '10 FXT and it was very easy. For me it was as simple as removing the map lights to get the plug (mine came with a standard mirror), swapping the mirrors, plugging it in, adding the wire cover, and putting the map lights back in.

Took me about 10 minutes probably, it's very easy.

I just did this recently. Make sure you have the correct mount and wire. The 10" or so cable is different between the two mirrors and the mounting pad and wire cover are different. If you bought the mirror as a kit it should have what you need. Otherwise they are easily obtained at your local subaru dealer. I bought my mirror off of eBay so I had to get those few items locally. I believe they cost about $18. Good luck and enjoy.

Are you saying the cable, mounting pad, and wire cover are different between the auto-dimming/compass mirror without homelink and the one with homelink?

Yeah, all of that is different. Are you buying the mirror as an accessory? Or used? I found my mirror on eBay for $80 out of a legacy. It was the mirror only so I picked up the extra parts at my local dealer.
