How long does it usually take a 2009 to re-learn fuel trim, etc., after the battery's negative terminal has been disconnected and reconnected?

It varies. I've experienced times ranging from zero to a few quick starts to a day or two. In that latter case, things sure sounded ugly for a while.
I think its learned back in now. Right after the re-connect of battery, it was thrashy and impossible to smoothly shift (manual trans) for the first several miles. Seems back to normal now though.
Good news. That was exactly my experience on some occasions.
