My daughter and I were rear ended hard last week at a dead stop in our XT. I think the car will be totaled. Any guesses? I think the frame is tweaked. The “floor” of my trunk is 6 inches higher than it used to be and I can’t open either of my rear doors. Nothing seems to line up anymore including the gas door. 😞

I’m no mechanic, but I’m pretty sure something is even misaligned here since I can’t open or close this either...and you see the overlap on my doors. Literally not a single body panel lines up anymore.

The older the car, and yours is 9 model years old, the more likely it will be totaled with that kind of damage. Hopefully the guilty party was insured and no one was seriously injured.

Unfortunately for me the other driver was not insured. In my state we legally have to carry insurance for uninsured/underinsured drivers. I wish I didn’t have to take a second hit for this too.

However, luckily my 11 y/o and I were mostly unharmed. Whiplash is NO joke though.

It’s amazing the difference. I was rear ended on the highway at highway speeds 6 months ago and had about 3,000 worth of damage (to the same car) and we barely felt it. This time we were hit by another Subaru at a dead stop. She didn’t see us. No way to know how fast she was going but I don’t believe she ever hit her breaks. Speed limit was 40. This time we felt it and were pushed quite a ways down the road. Truthfully I was amazed there wasn’t more damage! I am so grateful for my Subaru.

Well, they totaled my car. Thank god Subaru’s hold their value. Wish it hadn’t happened at all... Already miss my XT. Wish Subaru hadn’t gone with the CVT transmission in their newer models.

Sorry to see that but glad everyone is OK! Yes, that is a write-off; hope you can get a reasonable amount from the insurance to put to your new vehicle.

Even is not required, everyone should have under/uninsured coverage. Too many people have no or little insurance it is not worth the risk. So glad you are safe. You are very lucky to not have any injuries, like whiplash as you mentioned, with such an impact from a standstill.
