Hey guys,
I decided to tackle my rear drums today, seeing as the pads haven't been replaced in years. I was able to take the old pads off, but I'm having one heck of a time trying to get the new pads to fit in snugly. The problem is the top two springs and the adjuster screw. It looks like the screw should be loosened until there is tension on the springs, or have I misunderstood it's purpose? I can't get the pads to fit tight in the drum because they keep falling apart where the top springs and adjuster are. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and by the way, it's an 01 forester L with the 2.5 liter 4 cyl. Thanks in advance.

Star wheel adjuster set loose or tight nothing should be falling apart once you've got it together.
Once you got it together right just open up the adjuster until the drum just slides on.
Will self adjust from there.
