Rattle List request

If I remember correctly, someone posted a list of noises and their fixes (I found the list right before the SF.com site went down).

Any chance on someone reposting that list? I am a new member of the Forester world and have a few noises to track down and kill.

I would also like to know what the fixes are for the rattles.
I have lots of rattles, but no fixes... :(
Glove box rattle fix:

Another common rattle is the rear hatch area. Moving the striker latch up helps. I think someone had pics of that but it was not me.
At surface street speeds, my 06 has an annoying squeak/rattle coming form the front dash, right above the steering wheel. it is caused by the top-most surface rubbing against the 2nd to top-most surface. i'm gonna bring it in to get fixed under warrantee.
I have an intermittent rattle, well sort of a rattle. When at a specific temperature. The headliner seems to shift around a bit and fabric on fabric rubbing noise. Anyone else with this one?
I have an 06 that rattles above the sun visors. The headliner is rattles on rough roads. It seems to have little rattles everywhere but those stock tires seem to rattle the car the most. Like riding on square tires.
My worst rattle is specific to the retractable cover for the rear cargo area. The most consistent fix is to simply remove and store it somewhere. I am sure there is probably a way to tighten it in its clipped in position, but have yet to take the time. That is my primary rattle to date at closing on 10k miles.

Yeah, my cover rattles too. I'm going to put a strip or rubber on the mounts to absorb the shock and lessen the rattle. Hopefully, I'll post the results this weekend.
Rattle/squeeky noise under steering column

Rattle/squeeky noise under steering column - This is a known problem with Subaru. I had mine fixed the second week I had the car by the dealer. It is a wire bundle assembly rubbing against something under the steering column. They knew right away what is was and fixed it with some foam tape.

Now for the glovebox clicky click sound...
I've had a rattle on the passenger side of the sunroof for about 2 years now. I've learned to live with it.

I noticed this not 5 miles into owning my vehicle. For anybody who has done this fix did it work?

Speedo and Rev counter glasses

Once I get above 40mph I get a really annoying buzz from the glass (?plastic) covers of the Speedo and Rev counter. So far the cure has involved tearing up a business card and wedging it between the glass and plastic gauge cover in the dashboard, hope that makes sense!
One I finally narrowed down is just above the center shoulder belt opening in the headliner. I thought it was the cargo cover, and added some weatherstripping to the bracket, but still had the noise. Checked the usual suspects others have mentioned (license plate, hatch trim, etc), and found I could make the sound occur. This might be a variation on the styrofoam-sounding squeak in from the sunroof cover.

I don't have a fix yet, but I hope I can do it withoud dropping the headliner.
The glovebox had 2 rattles - the door itself and the lock tumblers. Instead of adjusting the the latch with washers, I fixed the door rattle by replacing the little rubber door bumpers with slightly larger ones. No fix yet for the rattle in the lock itself.

I have a 2006 Forester LL Bean and the squeaks coming from the area above the steering column are driving me nuts. Its seems that all I have to do to stop the sounds is to wedge something between where the panels meet. I cant tell from your post if we have the same problem but I was wondering how your dealer worded the repair order so I can explain it to my dealer.

I finally figured this one out. This rattle is coming from the sunvisor mount, nearest the rear view mirror. There is a small plastic backing to the headliner right where the mount is. That plastic makes a noise when the headliner moves around on rough roads. I put a piece of felt between the headliner and the roof, cut a hole for the screw, tighted it all up and the rattle is gone. :Banane36:

Of course, as soon as I got rid of that one, I can hear the one near the gauges that so many have had.
My rear hatch creaked and rattled - it was the striker latch.

I have a crackling speaker in the driver side rear door - does this count?
I've never understood some peoples' extreme sensitivity to rattles and such... how did humanity even manage to survive the horse-and-buggy days?

Have a ride in my 4x4 and you'll forget *any* rattle, squeak, or buzz your s00b might make. :p

Thanks for the idea.

My glove box just developed this rattle the other day. I hope this trick will work (already did the lock fix months ago).
