So sometimes my Forester wont start until the 3rd crank. Its always happened on a cold crank, not cold as in weather but cold as in the first crank of the day. Always the 3rd crank. It either starts on the 1st crank and starts right up just fine, or it will only start on the 3rd crank.

The heck....?

Think it could be a weak fuel pump. Whenever I turn the key to the on position and wait about 5 seconds, and then start the car, it starts right up every time. Fuel pump issue??

Have a charging system test done on your car. Your battery could be going bad.

@Dustflo -
What I noticed in mine is that I get consistent starts if I turn the key and wait until all the gauges and chimes stop...
I put on the seatbelt while I'm waiting, so I really don't wait, I just turn the key on when I first get into the car.
If I don't wait, it can take several tries to start.
If I wait, it starts on the first try every time.
I think it may be the engine immobilizer needing time to synch up.

In any case, it's a work around that prevents me from needing to do anything.
Give it a try and see what happens...
