if a 300whp, 330 wtq Forester went up against a 2002 Mercedes CL500 AMG in a quarter mile, who's time would be quicker?

haha I know it's a random question but I see a bet coming in the near future :icon_razz:

My money is on the forester, unless the cl500 has any serious mods done to it. My forester is putting down just about the same power and does high 12s. So, with a good launch you should be in the low 13 and high 12s.

It's all in the driver. If there is a serious bet involved, I would get some practice runs in if you haven't drag raced before. It's a lot harder than it looks, trust me:icon_wink:

Just last week I saw a buddy of mine with a 20g'd sti, that put down 350hp on a mustang dyno, drop a 14.2 in the quarter mile..... Even after 6 more runs, he only got it down to a 13.5. Good luck though!!!

i am 293whp and 323tq (vf48 protuned) and i was pulling 13.3's yesterday with horrible launches. kuhmo SPT's were only getting me 1.98 to 2.0 60' times (aweful). btw...i was trapping over 106mph. it was 50 degrees out.

I was using Goodyear triple treads and got a 1.82 60' time, so traction shouldn't be a problem.

Funny, but I can't find a CL500 AMG anywhere in the Mercedes-Benz model chart for the model year 2002.

I CAN find, however, a CL55 AMG in the CL series for 2002 - and it has 342 horsepower at the crank. Where it shines, however, is in the torque category, where it has 376 lb./ft. from 3k to 4300 rpm. The CL500, on the other hand barely tops the 300 horsepower mark at the crank. Given that you're lighter, have more at the wheels than he has at the crank, the CL500 better be relying on a far superior driver at the wheel.

Of course, this is assuming that everything is completely stock. I've seen an AMG mommy-wagon - yes, a real wagon, take down some heavy hitters at the Wednesday Night drag races at Sears Point (Infineon) Raceway. I'm talking very low 12's in that thing. To look at it from the outside, you'd never give it a second thought...until you saw nothing but dimming taillights...
