03 Forester xs Auto, when cool the large upper rad hose seems to squeeze closed. After the engine heats up the upper hose appears to be open. The coolant overflow tank is always full and there is coolant in the radiator. Also the temp gauge moves up half way on the gauge almost within a min. a cranking and really never moves from there. Any ideas????

Thanks guys and girls

The collapsing radiator hose is a classic sign of air in the cooling system.

The short and dirty how to:
-Take the radiator cap off
-Start the car let it warm up
-Add coolant as needed through out the process

I was thinking thought that if they is a need for coolant in the system should it not pull from the res. tank?
