Can’t believe my eyes, and neither will you! After years of trying to get company’s to acknowledge that Subaru’s need locker options. @torqmasters has stepped up to the plate and has begun the work necessary to help this community out! These are final drawings to start production on the R160 locker! ETA is May/June pricing will be around 400$ a unit and have a 4 year warranty 100% made here in the #USA 🇺🇸! If you have any questions please feel free to contact us a USA dealer [email protected] !

I'd love to know more about the design of the diff. Is this a straight open/locked affair, or is it some sort of limited-slip device?

THis is the best way to explain it. The center pin apply pressure to the outer teeth causing it to lock up, stays lock with power and un locks under no load/little load and opposing force (cornering from the one tire)

A good rule of thumb I have learned is pretty much any subaru except performance models (WRX/STI) has the R160.

Does anyone know if the 2019 Forester has a one-bolt R160 rear differential or the five-bolt type? It appears TorqMaster's automatic locker works only with the five-bolt versions.

Really no need anymore. The power is directed to any wheel so quickly its almost the same as having all 4 wheels puling at the same time. I couldn't believe how good my '18 was compared to my 08. I started at the bottom of a relatively steep slope with 6 inches on the ground and it barely slipped at all.

Has anyone here installed one yet? It seems like a better 1st mod than a lift TBH, and I image a total blast in the snow.

I hope this isn't a dead thread.
When the poll came up a while back about this locker I said I'd order one and so I finally bit the bullet yesterday. Info on the forum seems a bit thin about these though I have seen the youtube videos such as they are.

My method in considering modifications for utility is to work from the ground up - A/Ts are fitted, locking diff then chase with underbody protection. I realize lifts have more bling factor but logically they aren't going to help if you can't navigate to a place where they come into use and then get stuck for lack of traction.

Does anyone have first hand experience with the 'chatter' noise during turns? I don't personally care but I don't want my wife to give me grief about it.

Any tips on the install? Would it be better to pay for it at a specialist subaru shop or DIY?
