Hi All,

I am from the Boston area and last week I went to a new garage to get my check engine light checked. They said that it was giving a P0420 and said that I needed a new catalytic converter (well both of them). He put the car up and showed me underneath where they both where rusted and leaking.

He quoted me $1,488 for the job (that’s 1308 for parts and 180 for labor) He is using OEM parts.

I am just wondering if this is a realistic quote or if I should get a second opinion.
Thanks for your help!

That number sounds right. OEM is mandated to make their cats meet Federal emissions guidelines.... I think it's 80,000mi.

I have been running a direct fit magnaflow on my honda now for the last 20,000 mi, saved $600 over the OEM. Highly recommend that route if possible.

It's a DIY job as well if you know how to deal with rusty bolts.
