From other threads/posts on this forum, I see that from 2004 up, head gasket failure was much less common. I am looking to buy a 2004 Forester X with 63,000 miles and the head gasket(s) need replacement. Is this a hint that the car was abused? Is this out of the ordinary. Also, once the head gasket is changed, will the engine be any different from before the head gasket ever went bad? Basically, I don't want to buy it if it should make me feel like it is not genuine or reliable.
