My newly acquired ‘14 Limited PRG worked as advertised until I had some work done under the hood, during which apparently the battery was disconnected, and I removed and re-installed the liftgate interior panel in order to push out a dent in the liftgate’s exterior. Ever since, with the rear gate closed and the necessary conditions satisfied (vehicle stopped, OAT within a certain range, ignition switch in a certain position), when I either press and hold the PRG button on the instrument panel or on the key transmitter, the PRG operates normally until the gate reaches the fully open position. Once fully open, it drops suddenly enough degrees to clobber the head of a fully grown female of average height while she attempts to load/unload the rear cargo area (guess how I know this) and then powers closed. The rear gate doesn’t need to encounter an object in its path in order to drop and then power close; it operates in this fashion without anyone or anything in its way (even the cargo tray is well clear).

When I press and hold the PRG button on the instrument panel, an electronic chirp sounds twice, the hazard warning flashers flash twice, and the PRG operates as I’ve described.

When I press and hold the PRG button on the key transmitter, the hazards flash per normal and an electronic chirp sounds twice, each beep approximately one second in duration and one second apart, followed by two shorter chirps closer together, and the PRG operates as I’ve described.

There’s a prolonged electronic beep of approximately three seconds in duration as the PRG powers closed.

How might I get the PRG to operate normally?

Just viewed an online tutorial video on setting the power liftgate memory height, then applied the procedure. Voila. No more guillotine action from the PRG.

It seems the gate was opening to the max height, and for some reason that wasn’t okay.
