Poor Gas Mileage

Hi Guys.
I just traded in my '11 Outback for a '14 Forester XT. My 4th Subaru. What an unbelievably awesome vehicle! Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing! It's a BEAST!

Can you tell how much I'm missing my Outback? NOT! :)

The only thing that's troubling is the gas mileage. The Forester XT is rated an average of 25 MPG (ie. 23 City, 28 Highway). I've had the XT going on 6 weeks now and I'm only averaging 18 MPG. I'm not shredding it out there that often (please don't tell anyone), and driving it in a fairly civilized manner.

So, is the poor MPG just due to it still being a new vehicle and not broken in yet? If so, what is the typical break-in period? Has anyone else with a '14 Forester experienced this?

Thanks!
Ron

Stay patient it SHOULD get better. I have over 3k miles on mine and do about 90% highway driving. I am avg near 28. When I do more city driving, I don't ever recall getting down 18 mpg. Are you using 91+ octane? There's a couple big gas MPG related threads, check them out. You will get an idea on what others are reporting for MPGs.

First Welcome, but I'm going to redirect related comments here.
