I just came out of AutoZone. Tried all these in parking lot myself. The short 10mm socket didn’t work, he said he didn’t have an “extension”, the tall 10mm didn’t work, the tall 12mm didn’t work and the tall 8mm didn’t work. The short 10mm socket seemed to lock down but not when attached to the ratchet. WOW is this hard!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately I think their video for the Autostop eliminator shows a best case scenario. Not really the difficult reality that installing this thing is…? Frustrating…..
If one 10mm socket fits, then the deepwell 10mm socket should also fit. It also seems strange that AutoZone didn't have any extensions-that's a common item. I just tried a regular depth 10mm socket with extension attached and it fit-maybe your bolt is longer for some reason. The deep well 10mm socket should have fit either way. If you have a more mechanically inclined acquaintance nearby, maybe they can help you out.

What went wrong with the tall 10mm? Can't understand why it wouldn't work.

If it truly won't work but the short one fits OK without the handle, they try turning the short one with vise grips.

If you are talking about the auto stop start, yes there is, and there are NUMEROUS threads on the topic.
The search function is your friend.
BTW - You should update your profile to include (at least) the model information for your car so folks can give you more appropriate responses.
Welcome to the forum (unofficially;-)

AutoStop Eliminator is the brand. If you have the reverse automatic braking (RAB)
option on your Forester it's a plug and play module under the driver side seat. If you don't, you have to fish a cable to get to the connector located in the Eyesight.

TIP: If you plan to purchase this, fill out the form but don't hit the "buy" button. Wait at least 8 hours and they will send you a 10% off coupon - at least this is what I was told and did and I received it.

Works great and you can still use the auto start/stop function if you want to revert back to the OEM spec.

I never investigated the practicalities of actually doing this since it doesn’t apply to my Foresters. My typical approach would be to build something on a small perf board (board with holes every tenth of an inch) and put it into a plastic box hidden somewhere convenient.

I once suggested this approach for somebody who wanted to suppress an automatic beep upon remote start. It aggravated the neighbors.

There is someone on here who built something like this using a timed relay board which you can get off eBay for $5-8 or so. Mounted it behind the autostopstart switch on the dash. Basically, what it did was "press" the dash button via the relay and appropriate terminals in the dash switch to turn off the autostopstart everytime the car is started. I actually purchased the timed relay board but then decided to go with the autostopeliminator product as it isn't permanent and doesn't require any modification to the car other than plugging it in. As well, if I wanted the autostopstart to work again, I just need to hit the button on the dash and it is turned back on. However, now that I have had mine for about a year I doubt I would ever want to do that.
