There is a much simpler way to do this. It's free and takes 10 seconds. Simply disconnect the sensory cable that is attached to the battery.

Why not do this and just run a cable to a switch in the cabin? Simple!

@JimmyV was already running it for 5000 miles as at 3 months ago. It would be interesting to hear from that member as to how it's going now.

Quite possibly - I "imagine" it has something to do with a "smart alternator" as many later model cars have now. These are a real pain for people with auxiliary batteries because they won't get fully charged with normal voltage sensitive relays (VSR) and so some electronic trickery is needed.

By trickery you're referring to battery-to-battery chargers?

Yep. I have a VSR in the Foz and a CTEK in the ute. But neither have smart alternators so is fairly simple.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with all the time freed up by not having to keep pushing that stupid button.

Just in case you have withdrawal symptoms you could reset the trip meter for every trip!

If you do it regularly you may be surprised that muscle memory will kick in and then it's no big deal. Just like those of us with older Foresters have to enable cruise control every time we start the car; it simply becomes an automatic movement w/o even thinking.
