I understand that the 2019 Forester will have start/stop engine technology ( God help us). I was wondering if anyone knows if it can be deactivated.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Looking at the instructions above, I guess you can technically disable it if you don't wear your seat belt, but that isn't a good tradeoff.

Otherwise, you can learn to press the Auto start/stop disable everytime you start the car.

Otherwise, you can train yourself to press lightly on the brake instead of all the way down.

How to permanently disable Auto Start Stop System

The voltage regulator is optional in case if you simply unplug the wire it may throw an error code.
Where the wire in 19 Forester and Crosstreck?

If a voltage regulator will handle the job, then I would expect that a simple 2-resistor voltage divider would work as well.

I don't have a 2019 to experiment on, and since I expect my 2016 and 2018 to live forever, I probably won't ever encounter this.

Congrats!
Can we ask you about your 19 Sport?
Please check the battery. Is there is a 3rd terminal for a small wire? If yes, it would be AutoStart wire that tell ECU the battery condition. Any photos would be nice. Not just the battery.

Too late tonight but will try to get some pics soon. I know there have been some questions about lights, etc., and I'll try to get under the hood, too. Thinking back, it seems like except for the spare tire, there wasn't much under the hood on my 1980 (w/o a/c!).

Let's see if I can get pics in. The first would be under the hood where I used to keep a spare tire. No more. Then the battery, then positive and negative post areas.

Seems quite logical. It would be the equivalent of always having the button pressed.

A quick check would be to hold the button down before starting the car, start it with the button still down, and see whether Auto Start Stop is disabled from the beginning, or needs a moment or two of power to get things straight before checking the button. Assuming success, then just find the appropriate connector and install the jumper to simulate button always down.

I originally came here today to suggest an approach of powering a relay from the brake lights and wiring it across the switch. This would automatically 'press the button' the first time you applied the brakes, and you would be good for the rest of the trip. But if the jumper approach works out, it's the best! Yours for the price of an inch or two of wire.

Edit: Oops, good try, but the manual says that a subsequent press turns it back on. Back to the drawing board. Cross fingers for the super simple jumper approach in the video above.

Next Edit: How about a latching relay? But once again, cross fingers for the super simple jumper approach in the video above.

Fuse for Auto Start Stop in 2019 Forester

Is there a fuse or relay that controls the Auto Start Stop feature in the 2019 Forester? Some may like this feature but it has denied us the enjoyment of our new vehicle. Anytime the engine stops while I'm on the road causes my heart to skip a beat. In my youth I had to drive cars that I had to work on to keep running. Anytime a vehicle stopped running at a stop light or in traffic I was experiencing trouble and a safety concern.

I'm aware of the button to temporarily disable this feature but I want to permanently disable this feature.

Unfortunately, after much searching, I am unable to find definitions for the fuse box abbreviations in this vehicle.

Somebody try the jumper hack and tell us how it went! I can't help, as my Foresters stop at 2018, and I suspect that they might even outlive me.

There is no presently identified convenient hack for the system. Being that it's an emissions related system, I'm reasonably sure they have spec'd out the starter to last "forever" as even with a drained swamp, it's unlikely emissions systems failures will be looked at lightly. In Ca. at least, disabling an emissions control device is also going to be a problem on those inspection years for registration.
