P300 code 2014 forester XT

I have a 2014 forester XT with P 300 code and engine light and hill assist light. My mech doesn’t have a good enough computer and he doesn’t want to just start eliminating stuff. Any suggestions.
BTW I only have 40k and caris well taken cared of.

Have you seen this?

It says for the 2.5 engine but I'm wondering if any XTs were affected, too?

P0300 Subaru Forester

A P0300 Subaru Forester trouble code may be caused by a faulty alternator. Don't replace spark plugs/ignition coils before reading this 07-112-16R bulletin.
