i have a 99 legacy outback AWD wagon with a 5 speed TY754VCACB tranny. the tranny shifts and works smoothly however there is a grinding noise that sounds like splines slipping. the tranny never pops out of gear, but when it grinds the car wont move. its gotten so bad that it wont even pull itself. you can put the car in any gear and let out on the clutch and you can hear the splines slipping/grinding. the tranny works fine, so i was wondering if this could be a problem with the differential or viscuous coupler, etc. i dont know much about it, but my local mechanic suggested replacing the entire tranny and i've learned these are very rare and hard to find. anyone with any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
