Two young professionals, career minded, one 14 month old child, might ? have another later, both 29/30 yrs old. Need second car as a family car, commute (40 mile round trip country B and A roads), family visits (100 mls round trip), want the space. Approx 15/17k mls per year
So decided ... estate and diesel.

Is it...

2007 Skoda VRS estate, all the trimmings 54 K mls fsh etc....

or

2006 Jaguar X type estate 42 K mls fsh etc

Both same price.

I said the Jag would be the better buy over a 4/5 yr period ( that is what they think) as it would hold it's value better, but then I am not a 30 something !!!!

So...opinions please.

Cheers

Brian

VRs for me. Some people have a stigmatism about Skoda, but its a VW underneath and I like the New Superb Estate.

One of my clients is a Taxi Company and they have two Petrol Octavia's with LPG and both have done over 350,000 miles. Biggest problem have been CV boots

Jag is ford mondeo based too many cheap plastic and doggy switches stay away ! :N_poke:
Why do you see fit to pass comment if you clearly haven't been in the Jag, none of the interior is carry over Mondeo and none of the elctrical system at all, the only carryover is the basic body structure and the layout of the front suspension!

Jag is a much nicer ride, probably hold value better, and the X-type is no pipe and slippers car.

Nothing wrong with the Skoda at all, make a good buy, but the Jag would be better I think.

My choice would be the Jag but then it was always a car to envy.
Daughter is rather more image conscious so the VRS is the favourite. She had a Fabia VRS and really misses the enthusiastic drive.

Cheers and thanks for the comments.

The Jag is simply a rebadged Mondeo - although unlike the Ford which is well put together - The Jag has had numerous manufaturing faults - as confirmed by a friend who has had 2 No. X-types company cars and each one has been back to Jag for numerous repairs.

VRS is a very good car (I looked at them before buying a WRX wagon) and cheap to run - Jag parts are very expensive (cheeky seeing as it is a Ford)

just my 2 pence worth

Had a Jag X D estate as a courtesy car when my Forester was in for service in 2008. At the end of the day both wife and I were glad to get back in my then 6 year old Forester. The road noise was terrible, and my wife found the seats uncomfortable.

If I bought a new car today, it would likely be a Skoda: Octavia or Yeti.
