I just made an appointment with my local Subaru dealer for an oil change. I got a confirmation email which noted the service was to use regular oil, not synthetic oil. I thought all 2017 Foresters were to be using synthetic oil. Is that not true? Thanks

Subaru Synthetic Motor Oil comes in two SAE weights: OW-20 and 5W-30. OW-20 is used in the non-turbo engine, designed for improved fuel economy and increased power. ... 5W-30 can be used for non-turbo vehicles, with the exception of the 2011 Forester.

Try to find a 0W-20 non syn oil.
I found it! Actually, it was 0W-20 synthetic blend. But that would not be the thing to use in our Foresters that call for 0W-20 full synthetic!

I'm not positive, but I think the brand was Shell. In any case, it was a name brand. So, be on the lookout and avoid the blend.

@Even_Stephen That will be fine. There are really hardly any "true" synthetics -meaning Group IV or V anymore, Don't worry about it it, seriously.

I did ask my Subaru service rep about it. He said they only use synthetic oil in the 2017 Forester.

I wish consumers had some quick test to make sure we are getting synthetic oil and at the correct viscosity. Like a test strip that changes colors if synthetic.
