hi everyone, I own 1998 subaru forester ej20 and i have an oil leak which falls on my exhaust line and generaters alot of smoke. the leak look like it comes from where the transmission meets the rea of the engine. can someone please advice me on what to do? a guy told me it was either my rear crankshaft seal or my transmission seal. if so can i use the seal from an ej25 or 22 and can i use the uk transmission seal. thanks

Look into the "oil separator cover." I'm not familiar with the ej20, but on the 99 2.5L SOHC the oil separator cover would easily begin leaking and it would drip out the clutch inspection plate (between engine and transmission). You had to do a clutch job to get to it, but it's a cheap fix.
