This is my first Subaru after 10 years of VW ownership. I purchased it December 14th after about 3 months of deliberation between the models. With a growing family (3 month old daughter) and a growing outdoor addiction (hiking, mountain biking, surfing and camping) we needed something a bit bigger to get us there safely.

I traded in my 2011 VW GTI:

2014 Forester XT Touring
Ice Silver

Mods:
-50% tinted front window, stock rears

Future Mods:
-Weathertech mats
-Mudflaps
-Horn!
-Rear sway bar
-Possibly tune if we ever see one

I have always enjoyed the Subaru family and looking forward to contributing to the community.

Thanks. Yes those are real BBS CHs. Still have them in my garage actually after trading the car in with the OEM wheels. Photography is a huge hobby of mine. Going to be interesting shooting a car with factory suspension at this height.

I followed a similar path, selling my "hot hatch" (2004 WRX) and picking up a Forester shortly after my daughter was born. So far, it has been a perfect family hauler, and pretty good for solo running as well.

I don't think it will be long before tuning options are available, especially with the FA20DIT showing up in the 2015 WRX.

Congrats on the daughter. The dealer was telling me about the new WRX engine being the same as ours. I am looking forward to it. I don't know much about Subie tuners but I am sure it will fall into place.

Agreed. Going to do some exploring once the paint is safe and the mudflaps are on the car.

What are you going to do for bike racks?
Looking into that right now. Since I have no intentions of lowering it I will probably do something hitch mounted. I usually don't ride solol so I want to find something for 2 bikes that isn't excessivly large and easy to remove/store.

Welcome and congrats on picking up a new Forester XT! Sounds like you've got similar outdoor hobbies as me, so I think you will be pretty happy with the extra space and capabilities that the FOZ will allow. I'm definitely really happy with mine so far and all of the adventures it has transported us to with ease.

Oh and your GTI looked sweet! Any plans for putting more aggressive looking wheels on the Forester?

I am very happy with this rack:
Products » Alpha | Küat

I have the 1.25" rack with the 2" adapter. Carries 2 bikes, or 3 with a stout 2" receiver. Not sure, but their Beta model may be similar, but 2 bikes max.
Very light, strong, quick on and off the vehicle.

The outdoors are my life, especially mountain biking. As of right now I have no intentions of upgrading the wheels and tires.

I will have to check that one out. This is my first hitch vehicle, where do you guys get these from?

I have yet to use either… in boxes in the garage still… (need time to install or pay someone)

Hitch : I went with the Torklift Eco-Hitch 2 inch version

Bike Hitch Mount : Kuat NV2.. 2 inch Version.. will eventually add the 2 bike add on when my daughter get strong enough to go on longer rides. You can only add the 2bike add on to the 2 inch version which is why I chose it.

Yeah I need to start looking into hitch mounts. Never owned a vehicle with a hitch before.

I like that bike attachment since it's lightweight, affordable and easily folds up into something that can be stored in the garage.

Received the Weathertech floor mats today. It is a very nice product that fits perfectly. Looking forward to seeing how it fairs against the elements.

I really like how the rear mat covers the hump as well.

do the weather techs cover the rug under the accelerator pedal ? I have the protection package weather covers and they don't.. If weather techs do.. I might have to upgrade.
