I have an 09 base model 5MT, 2.5 N/A engine. I notice a very intermittant odd smell. One way I can consistently reproduce it is when I drive a certain route that includes a fairly steep climb up a 1000-foot mountain, which I take every few weeks for a visit to my mom. The 4-lane road is such that you can keep a good 70-mph rate up the whole way, if you have enough horsepower (I lose a bit by the time I get most of the way up, but am still in the 60's when I hit the top). I don't have anything to compare the smell to exactly, it's kind of a sharp smell like hairspray. I never notice it under normal driving, even after hours on the interstate, so I am thinking it is either something getting hot, or perhaps pushing the gas when I am losing power is making the air/gas mixture wrong. Any ideas? Thanks.
