Hi All,

Engine light came on while part way through an overtake Hit 4500-5000 RPM and suddenly felt like it hit fuel cut and on came the orange light of doom. Pulls fine on boot below that engine speed and idles smoothly

I've lost my old Bluetooth code reader so bought a new ELM 327 V2.1 here: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07FDPSM91/ But it wont talk to my Forester. It will oddly talk to newer cars though.

Does anyone know what OBD2 protocol my Forester uses?

The new reader covers the below protocols but not sure how that relates to mine:
SAE J1850PWM (41.6kbaud)
SAE J1850VPW (10.4 kbaud)
ISO9141-2(5 baud init, 10.4kbaud)
ISO 14230-4 KWP (5baud init, 10.4kbaud)
ISO 14230-4 KWP (fast init, 10.4kbaud)
ISO15756-4 CAN (11 bit ID , 500kbaud)
ISO15756-4 CAN (29 bit ID , 500kbaud)
ISO15756-4 CAN (11 bit ID , 250kbaud)
ISO15756-4 CAN (29 bit ID , 250kbaud)

Thanks.

Without checking I think it's ISO9141-2(5 baud init, 10.4kbaud)

Thanks Don.
I tried an older ELM327 Version 1.5 reader and it worked fine on the Forester, pulling a P0103 code for MAF related troubles.

After reading these, it seems the ELM327 V2.1 is a downgrade on the older more reliable V1.5

The Amazon reader is going back for a refund.
