Drank the kool aid and bought a 2003 Forester XS yesterday. So far, so good.

Looks like I will need to change a timing belt (etc). I'm mechanically inclined and was wondering if this is something I should do myself or take it to the shop?

Or, if anyone is in the area that has done this job successfully and would be willing to provide an extra hand and encouragement, I would reward with food/beverage.

I'm in SW Michigan.

Welcome to the forum from Niagara Falls! :bacon:

The timing belt and water pump isn't something you couldn't technically do at home, but personally I'd take it to the shop to have it done since I'd be afraid to get in there and realise I'm missing the right tool. Plus I don't have a drain pan big enough for all that coolant.

Welcome. Once you put in a fresh timing belt, you should get another 100,000 miles out of it no problem.
