Hi Folks,
I just purchased this 2001 Forester and discovered after dark that I had no headlights. High beams are OK but neither low beams work and when I checked the daytime running lights ( I'm in Canada) aren't working either. I haven't had chance yet to check the bulbs. Do I get to them from under the hood or do the headlights come out from the front? Is there a headlight wiring diagram anywhere on this site?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

If it is like mine with H4 bulbs, it could just be the bulbs needing replacement even thou the highbeam on the same bulb works does not mean the low beam do.

IIRC the H4 are dual filament bulbs, meaning the high and low are separate filaments. Since we have DRL's the low beam's burn out way before the highs. I'd say replace the bulbs. Since the highs are working it means your getting power to the bulb.

Sorry, I know it's dual, I meant the whole thing as a bulb even thou it's 2 bulbs on one socket.

Thanks for the tips. I tried to remove the bulbs today but I am not sure how to disconnect the wiring and remove the bulb. I figured out how to remove the bulb from the reflector however. I didn't want to force things.
This is a great forum bye the way and thanks to you guys I have already fixed the clock! Mind you, I'd rather have headlights :)

Wire....There is a plug on the back of the socket. you pull it out. Then you remove the rubber cover. Then there is only this metallic clip you push together to loosen the bulb. That's about it I think. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the help. My problem was both headlight low beam filaments were burned out. Replaced the bulbs and everything seems to be fine now.
