Hidden Hitch No Longer

Can you tell me the part number of the Hidden Hitch that you used? I looked on the brand Hidden Hitch's website but they don't show any fit for the newer Forester.

Did you have to drill or grind any metal?

Never mind. I sent an email to Hidden Hitch and they dropped that line. Email from them below.


I'm sorry BoomFog, but we no longer manufacture the Hidden Hitch brand we have discontinued the brand and decided to stay with Draw-tite only. These are basically the same models we just changed the brand, although the hitch is visible beneath the bumper.

DrawTite requires a stabilizing strap for a bike rack or a bucket, Curt does not require one. This is the reason I went with Curt over DrawTite even thought they look similar.

Instructions for the Curt hitch indicate a strap is required for non trailer loads.

Uninstalled my hitch the other week. Don't know if I'll use it but I'll keep it around just in case. The install was as listed here. One thing I noted was that several of rectangle washers had what I considered a worrying amount of deflection in them. No idea how much towing the car did before I picked it up last year. Would definitely replace that hardware if I did reinstall it later.

I believe you have that backwards my friend. It's Curt that requires the strap not Drawtite.

From what I can dig up so far, Draw-tite hitch also does not require drilling or bumper removal by feeding hardware through the 4th access hole in line with the other 3. Anyone able to find other ones? Curt hardware apparently is a bit oversized to feed through there. Looking for a hitch for a '17 Forester and this seems like the only logical choice, can't beat the price either. They have an install video posted on the etrailer site for anyone interested in how its done.

It's Curt that requires the strap not Drawtite.

Curt Recommends not requires the straps. See the top right of their instruction sheet. Probably a good idea to use one.

So the weather was finally nice today and I installed my U-haul hitch. It took just over 2 hours and fit like a glove.

One thing to note, I removed the heat shields and Subaru actually put little divots on there to mark where you need to drill out the holes for the bolts! I was able to use the proper size drill bit on a drill press and everything lined up exactly. I continue to be impressed by the fact Subaru actually makes provision for modification of these vehicles. I replaced the front speakers last week too, and it took a total of half an hour.

I like a car you can mod.
