Shame there's "no under bonnet" shots.

Sorry to dig up this old pist, does anyone know anything about this car,? I am in a process of buying the car, which I do have few concerns..

I know it has a a engine rebuilt at 60k miles with forged internal, but the twin scroll setup is quite a 'uncommon' mod? Been told the work is carried out by subaru for you..and it only produced 307/360lbft.. any info for the car would be so much appreciated .. thxf

Try to find out which twin scroll it has, e.g. might be the Litchfield twin scroll or the standard JDM one. Anyhow....

This car has been for sale a few times, back in May with the original owner I think. Then there is still this advert in Pistonheads:
Subaru : Subaru Forrester 2.5 STI

Wonder if that is also the original owner?
Then it was for sale at Heathrow cars I think last month and again with somewhere up in Yorkshire (RA Motors?) R A MOTORS (Yorkshire) : FORESTER 2.5 STi FACELIFT MODEL 307BHP 6-Speed F/S/H

So....

Might be fine but tread carefully and ask for a heavy discount as this has been difficult to shift.

Talk the guy with the other pistonheads advert (his number is there)
and talk to Subaru 4 U

At the end of the day, probably mainly motorway miles so you could be getting a bargain. but factor in that this is by far the highest mileage FSTI in the UK that I know of and will be hard to shift without a deep discount when you decide to sell.

Have a look at some of the other FSTI's on pistonheads and decide whether the discount on this one makes it comparible or you might want to spend a bit more money and go with something else?

Cheers

Al

Can't understand why you would pay for this:
including Forged Pistons, ARP Head Studs, Cometic Head Gasket, Etc..etc.. All documented costing £5700
and then only map it to that:
Remap and Rolling Road Print showing 307BHP.

It could me the map is not 100% there and there are issues to sort? Or the owner was fed up of having problems and asked for it to be mapped conservatively.
If I am not mistaken JGM maps for S4U so worth giving him a call and asking.

Or maybe the second scroll is not working properly so it spools up massively at low revs then completely runs out of puff higher up the range. If you look at the advert they have not long ago replace the turbo gasket, maybe problems there?

I saw this car at S4U last summer when it was in to have the engine sorted:
http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f75/subaru4u-you-57745/
The twin scroll and downpipe came from an Impreza, not sure which model it is.
AFAIK there were some throttle calibration issues but not sure why it only made 303bhp, what Fleetwood says sounds logical.
If you are interested in buying it is worth speaking to either S4U or JGM to get the complete picture/background, what has been done or needs doing etc.

As above speak to JGM and S4U... both are highly regarded and will give you an honest appraisal of the car.

I have just emailed Simon @ JGM, see if I could find out more details, and I am just in a process of trying to understand why someone would pay for all these forged engine thing and would only Remap it to 307bhp?? and I have been told by the previous owner the car's engine would use 1/2lt "water" every 1200 miles!!??:shrug: he might meant to say engine oil?? is this normal on a 2.5lt??

Hi everyone,, just got this reply from Simon at JGM, thought I shoud share with you all,,,

" it had from memory the switch scroll conversion added and I thought it was 330bhp.. the sti forester heads arent as good as the impreza and hamper the power a little.. "

That could explain why it only made 307bhp then??

I just got a reply from the previous owner who said he traded it in.
HG going again? It had a HG changed before due to the engine overheating and failure when the oil pickup pipe fractured and broke. Shame it has had so many problems so if you buy make sure you drop the price significantly and get some sort of warranty. It seems a very risky buy though.

You only have to view NorthDowns signature.......................

Black 2006 Forester STI
360 bhp / 398 FtLbs.................................

to see that that's not the problem. If it was a standard FXT then yes, and I'm very surprised at JGM giving that sort of answer.

Yeah, "Forester STI" (running > 400bhp and > 500ftlb ) seems to think that the FSTI heads are pretty identical to UK 2.5 STI:
Advice needed on 321t+ 2.5 forester sti, Thanx - ScoobyNet

Don't know if he is still running FSTI heads tho.

Also, I thought PWEBB came close to 400bhp in one of his tunes before backing off to something safer. In any case I don't see the 2.5 UK STI's making much more on a remap.

There are enough people getting 350hp out of XTs let alone STIs (assuming the heads are different) to make me thing that's b+ll+x. And that's with XT cams which are known to be softer than STI ones.

Having said that it's got some nice bits on it if it can be made to run right. A pint of oil in 1200 miles is too high - even for a 2.5. There should be NO water loss. Ever.
