Looking to do my first home based oil change.
There is a flat-bottomed black pan about one foot square about 4 feet back from the front of car, and another curved black pan - looks like the bottom of a doughnut, about 29 inches back from the front of the car. Each has a 14mm hex bolt. I think the front one is the oil drain, and the rear one is possibly the transmission drain. But - I've seen comments on this site describing an access plate that is inscribed with "oil drain" that needs to be removed to get access to the oil drain plug. I can't find such a plate on my car, and don't want to drain the wrong fluid. The forward plug is just rear of a sheet metal shield/deflector-like ridge that projects down about an inch.

Which is the real oil drain plug??

Thanks

Oil change comment

Thanks for your help. Oil change fine, but messy - even with care!

So, I'd appreciate any thoughts on the Fumoto valve. Any cons? Recommendations for the best 108 model for the '17 turbo Forester - long, short or no nipple - or new SX?

Also - what might a likely dealer reaction be to the Fumoto if I decide to have an oil change done by the dealer? Fumoto indicates several companies have considered a Fumoto valve a "genuine part' or some such designation - but I didn't see Subaru among them.

Could a dealer claim it invalidates the factory warranty?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Happy Holidays to All!

I've used Fumoto on 2 cars and really liked it. Could change the oil easily and almost mess-free - which lead to more frequent oil changes and would do the oil filter every 2nd change.

I sometimes had a dealer change the oil with Fumoto valve in place - and never a negative comment or note made on the paperwork.
